conversations & going through a rough patch.
said to me by a friend who tells it how she sees it:
girl, you have got to make a change. i hate to see you like this. you didn’t go to the gym last night or this morning and now you just feel worse about yourself and i must tell you that i think you’re emotionally eating, sorry but it’s true. i cannot stand to hear about one more night you spent crying on the couch and eating...
our nation's capital.
this weekend was great.
we ate delicious food, drank obscene amounts of wine, talked about everything, shopped around georgetown and the eastern market, and even took a few quintessential DC tours. we had downtime to just enjoy each other. and it felt like spring! we had gorgeous weather every day.
after a mini-breakdown last week (we all have them), i needed some time away with the people who...
three awesome things about today.
1. i ran 12 (!!!) miles this morning with my favorite running buddies.
2. i’m headed to the airport to fly to DC for a girls weekend with my bffs.
3. we’re private touring the white house - the west wing! - tonight and then will drink more than the recommended amount of wine.
sayonara, week from hell!
this weekend is about to be great.
the weekend.
saturday morning: this really cold run on the lakefront with my training girls buddies. i am not a cold-weather runner anything, and would usually choose to do these runs on the track inside. BUT determined to be hardcore, we gave it shot.
saturday evening: jason and my sister clearly not amused by my antics after downing 3+ margarita bombers* at a friends’ birthday celebration. have...
after a night of tossing and turning, this monday morning was for throwing my hair up and putting on the closest (and warmest) thing that resembled my pajamas.

umexcusemerude asked: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
socalledlife asked: What do you get at the juice bar? What kind of music do you listen to when you run? Favorite book? Favorite blogs? (I need some new reading material!).
theadventuresinblunderland asked: What are your favorite Chicago clothing boutiques?
fatgirlinohio asked: How did you & your husband meet?
umcanyounot asked: what is your favorite memory? (hi renee!)
liligolightly asked: Your hair color is so freaking gorgeous. Do you love being a redhead? (A strawberry blonde redhead, but still.) Did you ever dye it when you were younger?
zachrieger asked: Favorite thing to do in Chicago?
canttuchthis asked: have you signed up for the rock n roll yet? how many times have you done the half? what is one of your favorite things to do in the city?

restaurant style at home.
my sister has been staying with us this week while she figures out some hard life stuff. i’ve actually enjoyed the girl-time, and it’s been nice to have someone to watch horrible reality tv with. the other night, we cooked up a super-easy and delicious meal that honestly felt like restaurant dining.
my sister fixed the salad - beets, arugula, pear, pecans, goat cheese and a homemade...

tavernita: tapas + cocktails
friday evening’s happy hour turned into almost 5 hours spent at a fun new hangout in river north.
the highlight: on-tap cocktails. i tried the booty collins and the pisco double punch - both were slightly sweet, tart and delicious. i ended up drinking 4 (!!!) booty collins before the night was over, they were just so good!
the food was also great, not omg-spectacular, but really good. ...
results of a productive morning.
three miles on the treadmill. i’m starting to really really despise the treadmill, but for my shorter runs it just makes more sense to do them at home instead of trekking to the gym. anything over three, i’m on the track or outside.
since i saved time by working out at home, i decided to make use of the over-ripe bananas sitting on the counter. i’ve been lacking in healthy...

thirty before thirty.
i turn 28 this year, in may. a few weeks ago, jason and i started talking about all the things we’d love to accomplish over the next few years - and being married with no children, how this is the perfect time to cross off any and all items on our bucket list.
cliche as it is, here it is - the thirty things i’d love to do before i turn thirty, presented in no particular order:
run...

things i learned on super bowl sunday
i do not know how to cut hair. after learning this lesson, my marriage is now stronger and jason has the same haircut as he did when he was six.
some people think the super bowl is about football, but i’m really only in it for the dips. related: i can eat more dip than i previously thought, also more than i think is recommended for humans.
if your father-in-law is in the business of...

food + conversation
on tuesday night, i met bff jen for a few drinks at sable kitchen + bar.
the food was good, but the cocktails were even better. i had the heaven’s gate - a mixture of rum, pineapple syrup, green chartreuse and lime. we ended our meal with a brown sugar cheesecake with bourbon sauce and caramelized bananas. ohmygod.
this was one of those nights where our conversation flowed from topic to...
